Our story

The Freebird Foundation was established by Mike and Wendy Bordonaro in honor of their son, Michael — who lived by the principle that no one should ever be left behind. Known for his fierce loyalty and inclusive spirit, Michael spent his life ensuring that the "outsider" was always seen, heard, and welcomed into the fold.

In the wake of his passing, we chose to channel Michael’s legacy of care into a mission of tangible support.

Our Mission

The Freebird Foundation provides direct financial assistance to families in South Jersey navigating the tragic loss of, or serious injury to, a child. Through our community partnerships and two flagship annual events, we raise the funds necessary to allow affected families to focus on healing, rather than financial survival.
